Pocket Pets
We are unable to provide veterinary care for exotics at this time

'Exotics' include a wide variety of pets from reptiles and birds to 'pocket pets'. Rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, guinea pigs, sugar gliders and ferrets are often called 'pocket pets' or exotic pets. These smaller pets have a specific diet, housing and handling requirements, and they need just as much care and attention as other companion animals. |
Ferrets
Did you know that pet ferrets require annual exams and vaccines just like dogs and cats do?
Ferrets are susceptible to both the rabies virus and canine distemper virus. These viruses produce serious illness in the ferret that usually results in death. There is no treatment for rabies or distemper in the ferret. However, both of these diseases are preventable through vaccinations.
We recommend annual wellness visits to discuss proper diet, housing, weight and enrichment for your ferret.
A fecal sample should be checked for worms and other intestinal parasites.
Ferrets require a series of vaccinations when they are young and these should be boostered annually.
Pet Ferrets in NYS must be kept up to date on their rabies vaccination.
