Gary Zimmerman with Black Creek Wildlife Station, Inc.
Black Creek Wildlife Station is a nonprofit organization which affiliates with Churchville Veterinary Hospital, P.C. It is operated by Gary and Trish Zimmerman who are licensed wildlife rehabilitators. They may be contacted at (585) 293-3221. If you find any wildlife which seems to be in trouble, please do the following: 1. Replace any bird or mammal which appears to be orphaned, back into, or as close to its nest as possible. The survival rate of orphaned wildlife which are raised by humans is less than 50%. 2. If it is determined that the bird or mammal has lost its parents, put it in a box lined with paper towels and put a heating pad halfway under the box. Set the heating pad on “low”. Put the box in a quiet, dark place. Do not give food or water until you have spoken with a wildlife rehabilitator. 3. If you find an injured bird or mammal, do not try to care for it. Place it in a box as described above but do not place the animal on heat if head injury is suspected. Keep the box out of drafts and in a quiet, dark place. 4. Contact Gary or Trish. If they are not available, contact your regional Department of Environmental Conservation for a list of other wildlife rehabilitators.
